The Yemen office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation is a section of the Middle East and North Africa department of the organization.
Activities in the country started in 1997 as part of the project “Promotion of Democracy in the Middle East” and in 1999 an office was established in the old city of Sana’a. It was supervised by the foundation’s representative in Amman, Jordan and headed by Yemeni local staff until September 2005.
In October 2005 a German representative was introduced and today the office staff consists of six employees. They are working in close contact with nongovernmental organizations, academic research institutions and the Yemeni government on different topics regarding the democratization process in Yemen, human rights, social justice, international dialogue and other fields.
